So after one of the best weekends of football in recent memory, the next few weeks could be anti-climactic unless of course your team is battling for one of those top 3 spots in the Premier League or maybe they are in a relegation battle.
The FA Cup semifinals were perhaps some of the most exciting games we have seen recently. The defending Cup holders Arsenal were expected to win. As for Aston Villa, nobody expected them to be in this position. That game ranks right up there in FA Cup history with Steven Gerrard’s blast, and Wigan’s upset of City. Tim Sherwood has done an amazing job and now has Villa on the cusp of an FA Cup title for the first time since 1957. They will surely be underdogs but they could pull the upset of all upsets on May 30th.
The Barclays Premier League trophy already has the C, the H, and the E, engraved on it. Jose Mourinho’s club grinded out a win against Manchester United and now with a win over Arsenal, they will pretty much seal the deal. But the battle for Champions League and Europa spots is one to watch. Can Southampton come back to steal a spot from Liverpool or Spurs?
Barcelona and Real Madrid continued to keep pace with each other, Messi scores his 400th goal for Barca, Ronaldo scores his 50th goal of the season but Real Madrid now faces some tough injuries down the stretch, while Barcelona is being carried by Luis Suarez who now has 12 goals in 12 games.
As for the derby between Inter Milan and AC Milan………….MLS truly is a better league and I mean that in all seriousness. I would’ve expected much more out of a derby, but in the words of Ray Hudson, it was as sloppy as a soup sandwich.
